Westhroid / Nature-Throid
The differences between Westhroid/Nature-throid and ŽArmour Thyroid
The following information is from a letter from RLC LABS.
You were interested in some of the differences between ArmourŽ Thyroid and our thyroid medication, Nature-Throid or Westhroid. In principle, our category of therapy is the same. We both use the active ingredient, Thyroid USP (also frequently freferred to as NDT or Naturally Desiccated Thyroid). This is not to be confused
(as we typically encounter) with just desiccated thyroid gland powder that one may find in some nutraceutical products. Thyroid USP is officially established and recognized as a pharmaceutical active ingredient that provides guaranteed potency of T3 and T4 thyroid hormones. By comparison, all nutraceutical desiccated thyroid gland are mandated by the FDA to be Thyroxine free and no guaranteed levels of any thyroid hormones. Both ArmourŽ and Nature-Throid /Westhroid uses thyroid glands ultimately extracted from pigs.
Having established that basic premise, the main difference between ArmourŽ and
Nature-Throid/Westhroid are the two items, indicated below:
1. Inactive ingredient base. Nature-Throid and Westhroid use all
hypoallergenic inactive ingredients in our formulas. We frequently encounter
many patients who suffer from hypothyroidism to also have numerous food and
chemical sensitivities. Although many patients feel relatively better once they
change from their normal T4 synthetic thyroid preparation to NDT, most report
even better results (from their symptomatic profile) once they switch to our brand
of NDT. We have numerous prominent physicians who have been using
ArmourŽ for years that once they have changed to our brand, their patients
having better compliance. One example of this is with Dr. David Brownstein. In
his most recent edition of the book, Overcoming Thyroid Disorders, he cites one
of this patients experiencing this exact phenomenon (with only ArmourŽ to
Nature-Throid conversion). Another physician who highly regards our product
is Dr. Mark Starr, author of Hypothyroidism Type II. I am enclosing our complete
inactive ingredient disclosure with their derivative sources for your examination.
We work very closely with various medical societies including A4M, ACAM,
Orthomolecular, Environmental, CAM, Biodentical Hormone, International
Hormone Society and with various health care practitioners (MD, DO, ND) along
with supporting many organizations such as ThyroidScience.Com (Dr. John C
Lowe), John Lee Institute, Broda Barnes Foundation, etc
2. Stability. We have never had any mandatory or voluntary recall of any of our
thyroid medications due to inconsistency in dosages. Our formulation and
preparation is able to stabilize the T3 and T4 hormones through its entire expiry
period (3 years from manufacturing) providing additional assurance to both
physician and patient alike in quality and consistency of our strengths.
I hope this information is helpful.
Thank you for your attention regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
Dai Jinn

Westhroid versus Nature-throid - from RLC Labs
Several years ago, we merged the formulation of Nature-Throid and Westhroid to be completely identical with one another. All of the products, from the raw materials (active Thyroid USP to all inactive ingredients in exact ratios) to the manuafacturing process, are absolutely identical with the only difference being the tablet imprint code (NT for Nature-Throid & TH for Westhroid).
RLC Labs continues to offer both branded thyroid products for our loyal customers dedicated to the respective name brands.
